The Cyclones Amateur Hockey Association offers hockey programs for players of various levels. At a high level, USA Hockey is divided into age-appropriate divisions based on birth year. For the 2010-2011 season, the age divisions are as follows:
Mite: Born in 2003 or later
Squirt: Born in 2001-2002
PeeWee: Born in 1999-2000
Bantam: Born in 1997-1998
Midget: Born in 1993-1996
From there, our hockey programs are divided up into Travel Hockey and Travel-B ("House") Hockey.
Our Travel hockey teams compete in either the Central States Developmental Hockey League (CSDHL) or the Norhern Illinois Hockey League (NIHL). Players at this level participate in a tryout process before the season starts and are chosen by the coaching staff to play on one of our teams. Players at this level will participate in weekly off-ice skills development (optional), weekly powerkskate clinics or goalie clinics, two practices per week, game schedules running from September through early March, and team-optional local or out-of-state tournaments.
Our Travel-B ("House") hockey teams compete in the Northwest Hockey League(NWHL). Players at this level participate in a no-cut evaluation process before the season starts and are evenly assigned by the coaching staff to play on one of our teams. Players at this level will participate in weekly off-ice skills development (optional), weekly powerkskate clinics or goalie clinics, one practice per week, game schedules running from October through early March, and team-optional local or out-of-state tournaments. The intent of House hockey is to offer a lower cost, less committment option to players and families with interest in hockey. House hockey also provides developmental opportunities to hockey players that could eventually progress to Travel hockey. In addition, the NWHL provides the BIT (Balance Ice Time) policy, where players are offered reasonably even ice time throughout the game.
