Letter from the Cyclones Hockey Director

By Cyclones Web Admin
Dear Cyclones Families:

I wanted to take this opportunity to send a note of thanks to all of our players and families that participated in our spring season and update everyone on our summer programs, which will lead us into the fall 2012-13 edition of Cyclones Hockey. Our numbers this spring were tremendous with over 300 players participating in our program.

Cyclones spring hockey included great team accomplishments highlighted by Southwest Spring League championships won by Bantam 3 (Sole), Squirt 2 (Bisceglie) and Squirt 3 (V. Rutili). Our tournament teams also had a fantastic spring with championships being won by Bantam 2 (P. Rutili) and Mite 1 (Skifstad), as well as runner-up finishes by Bantam 1 (Jones), PeeWee 1 (Gorczyka) and Squirt 1 (Brandonisio).

Our primary goal for spring was to get the players to work on skills and the fundamentals of hockey. We accomplished this through Monday Powerskates, which were again headlined by Kenny McCudden, and our greatly successful Friday Night Skills sessions. Our kids are extremely fortunate to have a true pro like Coach Kenny teaching them finer points of skating technique in a fun, yet challenging environment. Our players participated in progressive drills and had some of the best young college hockey players from the area to work with them at our skills sessions. I want to recognize and give a big thank you to Nick Lappin (Brown University), TJ Tynan (University of Notre Dame and 2011 3rd round pick of Columbus Blue Jackets), Robbie Russo (University of Notre Dame and 2011 4th round pick of New York Islanders), Jimmy Murray (St. Cloud State University) and Brett Wysopal (2012 National Runner-up Ferris State University) for helping our players this spring.

The Cyclones Board and I are very excited about our summer offerings leading into the fall season, starting with our Semi-Private Program. This is a new program for our club and will include small group instruction headed by myself. The focus will mainly be on the offensive areas of the game - stick handling, passing, shooting, timing and tempo. We will have guest instructors, made up of college and pro coaches and players, come out and help teach the different nuances of the game. We have received a phenomenal response to this program and have had to add additional sessions to accommodate all the players interested. We currently have over 90 players registered. The players will receive a good mix of fun and skill development in high energy sessions. Visit our website for details and registration, as a limited number of spots still remain.

Later this summer we will be bringing back the hugely successful and popular Cyclones Coaches Camps. These camps are always a sell-out and are a fun and affordable way for the players to hone their skills under the direction of our extraordinary coaching staff. Registration is now open for these camps so be sure to sign up today! This summer the camps will be run by:

Scott Skifstad (Mites)
Ralph Brandonisio (Squirts)
Dan Costanza and Mark Plantery (PeeWees)
Nick Jones and Peter Rutili (Bantams)
Mike Zombo (Midgets)

Finally, we continue to strengthen our coaching line-up by adding more experience and professionalism, as well as youth and positive energy to our staff. We are steadfastly committed to providing the very best developmental hockey programs and instruction while providing an environment which encourages creativity and fun, balanced with important life characteristics like responsibility, work ethic and respect.

Again, I would like to thank you for a successful spring season and look forward to a productive and enjoyable summer which will lead us into a great fall season. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have regarding any of our programs or your player.

Have a safe and wonderful summer and I look forward to seeing everyone around the rink.

Sincerely,

Peter Rutili
